Whether it is a family portrait over the mantle, or a whimsical mural in the home or office, my goal as an artist is to bring joy into the lives of my clients and glory to my Creator. At a portrait or mural consultation, I will take the time to talk with you, to understand just what you are seeking in a commission. I will do all I can to make your vision a reality.
My fascination with art began with a blue ribbon in a first grade painting contest. It's amazing how far a little encouragement can take you! A 1992 graduate of Maine College of Art (formerly Portland School of Art) with a Bachelor's Degree in Photography, not once did I touch a paintbrush in those four long years.
Portraiture has been my focus since that first grade painting encounter, through my photography education, to my current painting endeavors. I began experimenting with watercolors a few years back and found it a relaxing yet exciting medium. Thus began my painting career.
I find the human face amazing, with all its subtle nuances of color and form. I desire to capture that quirky smile that sparkly twinkle in the eye, which makes each subject so delightfully unique. As inherent to the art form, and as I strive to interpret your loved ones on the painted page, the portrait evolves into its own translation. Not even the finest of painters can portray their subject in complete exactitude. If exactitude is the goal,
photography should be the medium of choice. My desire is to give each client a beautiful memory to repeatedly ponder and cherish.
I got into muraling sort of by accident. A friend commissioned a pet portrait and asked if I would consider painting her kitchen wall. Here I discovered my newest fascination, huge wall art! I find muraling exciting because its possibilities are endless! Fairytale landscapes, an ocean underworld, or a Trompe l'oeil of a Tuscan countryside, murals bring a fresh new story to the walls they adorn.
